Education is over-rated and the most hyped thing in India. Its not contemplated as a fabrication of enlightenment of the naive little brains but as an easy way of filling empty pockets. It is a high profit business for the runners of educational institutes and a process for earning big in the future for the kids. Alas! Its a mean mean world, totally materialistic. I still don't get how long it will help one in life or even define the precious life!
I was thrown out of my junior college! Reason? I passed in my HSC boards. They thrust the leaving certificate on my face and even made me pay 100bucks for it! Why? Reason unknown. I asked the clerk as to why we have to pay Rs.100 for the LC only to get a disgusting look back from him. also he said "paisa bharna hai toh bharo nai toh chale jao, LC nahi milega" Swearing under my breath i paid the amount and hauled the certificate unwillingly and with much nostalgia. I still don't know if they have the right to charge for LC or not. These are the little things that interest me to a great extent and make me go for a career in law. And in order to accomplish that little dream or fulfill the craving, I petitioned for few law entrance examinations and spent almost ten grands on it. And guess what? That 10 grands made me eligible for only two colleges. There must be 1000s of students applying for the same institute. That means 5000*1000= 5o lakhs! Woot! The institutes earn crores of rupees in these admission stuffs but give only 80 seats.What an amazing business. Again, i don't know why its a whopping 5k for an application form and if its okay to charge that much.
Old were the days when one just stepped into a college of his choice and got his admission done in the next five minutes - As easy as buying a cupcake. But today its a race. A hunt. The educational field is the jungle, lions and tigers are the renown institutes and we students are the hunters. The super rich have the gun, the poor have their bows and arrows and the one with awesome scores have "permits". The gunman gets whichever animal he wants and the poor gets what his arrows afford. There again there's a special offer for the tribes possessing rudimentary technology. The offer is called "reservation" by our govt. D'oh! Hence the people who can afford to get seats are the hyper rich, the people with permits and poor. Wait! Did i say poor? Well our Indian constitution has a different meaning for it. The SC/ST/OBC are the "poor" people of our nation says the constitution. In reality they can be rich or downright poor but who cares?! All that matters is that they belong to a certain backward caste so they get the reservation. How amazing a beneficiary system! I am impressed :| Yet delusional constitution enthralls me. And the voraciousness of assimilation of the constitution makes me go for LAW and gets me hunting for good law colleges.
It was a long journey, a memorable one, from pre-school to junior college, from a child to an individual. I am no longer known by X's daughter or Y's sister, i have my own identity. And now its time for some professionalization. 5yrs down the line i will be a lawyer. So less a time for making the most out of my college life makes me a little sick inside. But who knows, what if the professional life is awesomer? ;D
I am neither the rich nor the poor (caste-wise) and nor the one with permits. Yet i am game for hunting colleges. I got into an awesome junior college with a so called good score (permit) but my degree college is still a big question mark. Chilling back at home in this hot weather with beer and popcorn, i am hoping for the best. Now isn't that the cool way? ;)
I still have a long way to go and to cross many a path. But i am young enough to say its gotta be the good life!
